During a conversation with some Afghans, the matter of Pashto and Dari was brought up. I said that Pashtuns should stick to their language and speak Pashto to other Afghans. One of the Afghans said “I don’t care about such things, I speak Dari with Dari speakers even though my native language is Pashto”. I told him that what he is doing is not unique; most of the Pashtuns have sadly the same attitude towards their languages. That is to say, they speak Dari, Urdu or Hindko and abandon their own language. But it doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. Upon that he said “it is too late, we can’t change it now”.

A simple search on “Pashto” or “Afghan” on Youtube will bring hundreds of video clips with a very offensive and humiliating material which are made by Afghans themselves about other Afghan ethnicities. An example is a video clip with the distorted pictures of Ahmad Shah baba, Mirwais baba and other historical figures
