Norouz in Kabul, Afghanistan

Video Description:
Norouz is a traditional new year holiday celebrated by people in Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kurdistan, India, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as in Iranian and Turkic communities all over the world. The residents of Kabul celebrated Norouz walking to green areas around the city. On Maranjan Hill, people fly kites and dance while families stroll around leisurely. Interestingly enough, all these activities were banned under the Taliban regime. Indeed, the Taliban had also banned Norouz itself.

No its not against Islam, Nowroz is new year in islamic calender and it is celebrated just as New year is celebrated in western world. Islam is not that strict.

We do have the opening of the spring, as a new year. I don't know anything about that. But I mean the rituals of Noruz or chahar shanbeh suri, when you jump over the fire. Now you can ask any molana,sheikh or ayatolah, and they all will tell you that Noruz is not in Islam.
