Hearing gravel ... ( 6 months ago by libertarianjury)
Hearing gravel blather on in favor of socialized medicine and an empowered EPA environmentalist gestapo like some kind of aging marxist douchebag, I have come to conclude that gravel isn't his last name, it's what's between his ears. I'm voting for Wayne Root in Denver, and contributing $20 bucks to him online right now, to make sure he beats this loser, and the Republican infiltrator (Barr) as well. We need a real libertarian on the ballot on Nov 4, 2008! ROOT FOR AMERICA!!!!

Keep your $20 and go buy yourself a shiny new clue.

damian, you're the lost RP supporter. gravel is a socialist. libjury, i don't believe bob barr is an infiltrator considering the amount of work and contributions he has made since he joined the party. i would consider barr a "reformer" (i like the term moderate or pragmatic) rather than a purist.
gravel is right on ... ( 6 months ago by jeepndesert)
gravel is right on social issues--war on drugs. bob barr is a lobbyist for the marijuana policy project. unfortunately, he is now fighting some of his own legislation.

i will be honest that i don't know a lot yet about gravel. he has some good points.
wow. he sounds like ... ( 6 months ago by jeepndesert)
wow. he sounds like he supports the fair tax too. he did join the LP so you have to respect gravel for that. i'll stop criticizing gravel. i think it is nice seeing a former democrat senator joining the ranks. he is from alaska. LP has a long history in alaska.

jeep: Better a ... ( 6 months ago by libertarianjury)
jeep: Better a candidate with too much energy than too little. Too many libertarians have been pushed around by the MSM (like Bergland and Paul). Root will continue the Paul revolution, and support Paul's legislation. He needs the influx of cash now though... He's the only LP candidate who can take the battle for freedom to the mainstream public, and have an impact before and after Nov 4, 2008! ROOT FOR AMERICA! I strongly encourage all Paul supporters to drop $20 on Root for America...

Chapter 1 - The Libertarian Heritage

youtube watch?v=3J6LNTcJaMo
It is about 65 min. It will explain the rise of Libertarianism and how the left became a statist and pushed Libertarians/Classic Liberals to the right. If one listens, the reason Gravel is not a Libertarian but a Statist will become apparent. It pains me to see Paul supporters abandon small government for Gravel. Other LP candidates are much better and are actual Libertarians.
My GOD you people ... ( 6 months ago by piecraft)
My GOD you people are all entrapped by semantics!!! WE ARE AT DEATH POINT HERE and all you fools can quibble over is ideological differences??? I don't care WHO gets in Mike Gravel or Ron Paul as long as they STAND FOR THE CONSTITUTION, which THEY DO! Take your heads out of your pseudo-intellectual asses and realise that if we don't at least get someone who represents the people's liberties/rights we're all royaly screwed! JESUS! America you will NEVER learn.

First off Slayer ... ( 4 months ago by Exino)
First off Slayer you can take all your boughten ideas about libertarianism and fucking shove em. It may come to the surprise of you but Libertarianism encompasses a much wider philosophy than what your narrow view allows for. I know you think, in typical arrogance, that only conservative libertarians are true libertarians. They are not. YOU are not special.
Fellow Americans, ... ( 2 months ago by thebdgirl)
Fellow Americans, we cannot let McCain into the White House. Even if you don't trust/like Obama, you have to realize that McCain is just Bush 2.0. McCain voted 90% of the time with Bush, and if you don't believe me just Google it and find out for yourself. If we have 4 more years of Bush/McCain the economy will collapse, we will start more wars that we cannot afford and most of all we will lose our true freedom. Voting for Obama may not be winning, but it sure is better than losing.
We really can't ... ( 2 months ago by thebdgirl)
We really can't afford more of the same. I'm scared and tears roll down my eyes to think republicans could win again. Im seeing friends and family loose their jobs on a daily basis, companies going bankrupt, most people cant even afford to do groceries anymore its a nightmare. Please vote for Obama/Biden! Change is on our hands, we have to vote for Obama.
The Libertarians ... ( 2 months ago by ShadowsPhoenix)
The Libertarians remind me of a cross between Republican and Democrat. They are extremely liberal, but dont get any media attention and dont get any hate at all.
I respect them in a way. They have INTERESTING policies. If Obama or McCain wins, they should mix their cabinent with Republicans, Democrats, Constitutionists, Libertarians and Green parties all together. To get different and fresh views.
Libertarians are ... ( 2 months ago by Justheretosaythis)
Libertarians are not liberal, they are extremely conservative. They believe that smaller government leads to greater civil liberties. Libertarians want to see the size and scope of government reduced in every way. That is the opposite of liberal.
It's probably the case that part of the reason our country doesn't work is that no one who votes understands even the most basic philosophies of government. They choose sides based on complete and utter misconceptions and social pressures.
Libertarians are ... ( 2 months ago by overmind25)
Libertarians are very "liberal" on the social issues like gay marriage, porn, drugs, and a mix on abortion. Libertarians are classic liberals, liberals that want freedom from coercive institutions. Many libertarians are for collectivist ideas but do not want to be forced to take part it them.

I disagree with the ... ( 2 months ago by Justheretosaythis)
I disagree with the way you are using the term "Liberal". The terms Liberal and Conservative are used to describe philosophies of government and have little to nothing to do with social beliefs. Liberals want to use government to deliberately controlling a nation, making the state the central institution in all public life. Conservatives want smaller government whose main focus is national defense, and maybe, at most, public maintenance.
Actually ... ( 2 months ago by overmind25)
Actually philosophies of government have a lot to do with social regulation. Liberals in the classic sense were for less government. It just depends on how you define the terms. Many US conservatives dont mind using the state to hinder social expressions when it suits them. I will give you a good quote.
"Conservatism was ... ( 2 months ago by overmind25)
"Conservatism was always the philosophy of Nativism, Protectionism, Nationalism, Militarism, Altruism, Traditionalism, Mercantilism, Racism, Sexism, and Theocracy. The only reason why Conservatism became friendly with Individualism was to Combat Radicalism in the form of Communism, Political Correctness, and Forced Integration. Let us not forget that Political Conservatism is the enemy, not the friend of Libertarianism..." -Lysander Woods
Well I'm not sure ... ( 2 months ago by Justheretosaythis)
Well I'm not sure who Lysander Woods is, but I would have to disagree with him/?her?. Philosophies of government have to do with the role government should play and therefore, yes they have to do with social regulation but I specifically said social beliefs. Conservatism is none of the things in that list. In fact all of those things are distinctly liberal. I think that the modern idea of conservatism has been distorted by Neo-Conservatism which is misleading named and extremely liberal.
Well conservatism ... ( 2 months ago by overmind25)
Well conservatism in the US has been mixed in with nationalism, racism, protectionism, traditionalism, theocracy etc and in some instances they are still part of modern conservatism. Some of these like protectionism and others can be said of liberals as well. Ron Paul and his brand of libertarianism is only part of the history of US conservatism. Really US conservatism and Ron Pauls version of government is still oppressive. He believes in states rights and local tyrannies.
cont2: Like I said ... ( 2 months ago by Justheretosaythis)
cont2: Like I said there is a lot of confusion as to the actual history and meanings of these two very basic concepts. And understandably so, because they are words whose meanings are deliberately twisted and confused by politicians. I think that people have a tendency to believe that the two political parties have always represented the values they do nowadays however they have completely changed more than a couple times throughout history. There is no particular value set for either party.
