To free the people, to disarmer Iraq I am laughing my a** off
What I'm saying is that the motive was corrupt and that USA is fighting solely to "spread democracy" is a false statement.
Once again, I never stated that every nation must keep to themselves. What America does is spreading democracy, only as long as the "democracy" operates under their own terms (servitude by debt).
By the way, It's good to have a somewhat reasonable discussion on Youtube for once.
Either way, can we at least agree that millions of people have in fact been given a chance at freedom now, and since we've put this much work in it, and come very close to victory, we might as well finish the job? And just maybe, give Bush a little credit for pulling off a very difficult war?
Remember, Frank, you have to differentiate between self-interest and self-interest, regardless of supression of others.
Now let me ask you a question: Can you honestly say that the USA have not been guilty of severe human-rights infringements, in their economical policies? And if you can't, how can you call them altruistic?
And I completely agree on amsharper's comment
on american PUBLIC interest. The main interest of US government is the gigantic global corporations, i.e. Exxon, Shell Oil, Halleburton and Wal-Mart etc.
I'm focused on Iraq and Bush here, not all history, but compared to most, the U.S. is the most altruistic.
Also, what happens to big oil and Wal-Mart has some relevance to the public interest. You may have noticed that when the price of a barrel of oil goes up, so does the price of a gallon of gas and the price of food. So, U.S. public interest, check, freedom for Iraqis, check. Where exactly is your problem?
On your last point I'm going to have to plead a slight bit of ignorance on US foreign policy as I would call the US the least altruistic nation of the western democratic world.
My problem is that the inequalities in the world will only continue to grow as long as the rich nations keep on feasting on the poorer nations resources, just because they have have power to do so.
