Actually there is ... ( 2 months ago by ha52sara)
Actually there is strong evidence that Harzaras are descended from Mongolians. It is supported by studies in genetic genealogy, which hav identified a particular lineage of the Y-chromosome characteristic of people of Mongolian descent (the Y-chromosome of Genghis Khan). This chromosome is almost absent outside the limits of the Mongol Empire except among the Hazara people, where it reaches its highest frequency anywhere.

By historical records, in a particular bloody battle around Bamiyan, Genghis's grandson was killed and so he ordered Bamiyan burnt to the ground in retribution, while replacing the local population with his 1000s of armies and settlers. That is one of the reason why we were named Hazara (thousands) and the 1st mention of Hazaras was in 1500, 300 years after Genghis Khans death.
I don't know why ... ( 2 months ago by ha52sara)
I don't know why some Hazaras are ashamed or gets annoyed by this "theory" (although there are records that provide it). I feel honoured to be called a descended of the Great Genghis Khan who is the largest contiguous empire in the history.

Some feel a lot of pride for calling themselves mongol because they have childish thinking. When Genghis andhis army entered central afghanistan, bamian he faced fierce resistence from an asiatic people who looked similar to mongols. He burned down the area but it's impossible to kill and destroy a whole population of hazaras. It's a strong possibility that hazaras have a longer history than genghis.Generally hazaras have connection to other Turkish peoples, that's also from language.

Part One
darekafg: I agree with you. This topic has always caught my interesst.
I won't deny that some hazaras have Mongol blood, BUT Hazara people 1000 and 1000 of years of history in Afghanistan. One of well known prove is Budhas of Bamiyan which was build 1500 years before chengiz Khan invade Afghanistan.

Part two
Before we got the ethnic name Hazara, we were called Kushans. I can send you guys links where you can read about Hazaras but it's unfortunally in dari.
I will never call my self mongolian, NOT that i have anything against Mongolian people at all and I accept also that some Hazaras are remains of Ghengiz Khan army, but Hazara history dosn't start from Ghengis Khan.

Beautiful Photos, Beautiful People; In North-east India (Assam and Bengal), there are people with last names- Hazra and Hazarika, who are believed to have been part of a Mongol army (Hazara) that invaded Tibet/Burma/India-Assam; most are Hindus and upper middle class/middle-class and successful and have mixed very much with other Hindus; a famous guy is --Bhupen Hazarika, a very famous musician; don't know if there is any connection between Afghan Hazara and Indians with last name Hazra/Hazarika
I love Hazaras. ... ( 2 months ago by Shapur1)
I love Hazaras. They are the most sweetest, kind-hearted people I have ever meet. Regardless of their partial descent from Mongol troops, their history is very beautiful and I am very glad and proud to call them watandar. May God bless the Hazaras and Bamiyan, probably the most generous and approachable people I have met.

Some hazaras have descended from mongols but there are many more that have been in afghanistan long before Ghengiz Khan. but wats wrong with that anyway. everyone has a background.
I think our history ... ( 1 month ago by aksahairawan)
I think our history is pretty simple.
Before Hazaras 'Kushans' were the people who built Budha. But in a bloody battle around Bamiyan, Genghis Khan's grandson, Mutugen, was killed, and he ordered Bamiyan burnt to the ground in retribution, renaming it Ma-Obaliq (Uninhabitable Abode) while compeletly replacing the local population with his armies and settlers.
Since Mongol military allies also consisted of Turkic tribes, thus the Hazaras are Mixtures of dominantly Mongols and Turks.

On February 11, 1993, Massoud and Sayyaf's forces entered the Hazara suburb of Afshar, killing - by local accounts - "up to 1,000 civilians", beheading old men, women, children and even their dogs, stuffing their bodies down the wells.
