5 Apr 07: UK troops serving with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have been taking part in a major operation in the Sangin area of Helmand province, southern Afghanistan. The aim of the offensive, part of Operation ACHILLES, was to re-establish the authority of the Government of Afghanistan in Sangin and to create a secure, stable and prosperous environment in which reconstruction and development can take place. Take my advice..Stop shooting..Start talking..The more you destroy their farms and houses the more they will give assistance to the TALEBAN!!

The talking is easy, provided they aren't shooting at you (which might I add happens a lot in Helmand) You want to talk to them? Go ahead, 'cause when the bullets start flying I guarentee you'll realise it's not that easy.
Easy for someone to critise if they've never been there I guess.

dude the problem is the taleban use the empty farms and compounds for refuge whist border hopping for supplies, like ghosts! how would you open a door if there was a potential gunman on the other side? he does not care about manners or polotics but exporting opium so that he can buy arms from iran, china, and russia.

Also the coalition forces spend most there time trying to help. Radios, medical supplies, school supplies, building repairs financial funding and refugee aid are all give to residents. Even with all of this it is going to get much worse just because the ideology of extremist Islam is to kill the west! Know one is perfect and the problem is for every mistake or atrocity we make the thousands of good actions are forgotten.

the normal rules of hearts and minds dont apply here, there has been only one rule in governing the place since its foundin. that is with the sword and shit loads of brutality. Stop being an armchair general and wake up. this is war. a war that hasnt stopped since the 80s when the commies rolled in.

If we pull out now then it's the inocent people who are gonna be even worse off. We got into this mess so now we have to see it through to the end. A anounced/sudden withdrawal is out of the question because the fighting will get even worse with all these different groups claiming that they puched NATO out.

er its hard to talk when theres people shooting at you n having you been watching the news the british do tlk to the farmers and civilians they only 'blow' places up when there suspected taliban or have/ are beeing shot from that current location...

afganistan is were we need to base our fight,iraq was a mistake,we should have dealt with the afgans first.the trouble is we need to deal with the pakistanis as well or there is no point going on they are sheltering the taliban in the mountains .we also need to increase the size of the british army and maybe bring back conscription.
