This song is about CHRIS DAUGHTRY and HIS LIFE and he was performing for kids probably as a charity event. You guys need to take the whole fricken song in context, not judge it by one damn line. That just shows how ignorant soem of you are. This song is about Chris Daughtry NOT ill children. I guess he should've just stayed home then instead of collecting money for children? I don't get some people here.

He was singing a song HE wrote on his own and was talking about HIMSELF. [not in a selfish sense.] He didn't write the song TO THE KIDS! so he's not telling them to "be careful what they wish for." Lyrics are Lyrics. They say one thing to mean something else! DIG DEEPER AND STOP LOOKING AT THE GENERAL PICTURE!

As a matter of fact, I AM a songwriter, and I've been performing with my band much longer than Chris has with his. So trust me when I say that it IS possible to slightly alter your lyrics in order to fit a moment or a cause - which is what Daughtry probably should have done.

I am a songwriter also, so as a songwriter, what do you find offensive about the line, "be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it all"... than can be taken in a positive light as well. As a songwriter you should also know that music is interpretive to everybody who listens to it. I hope interpretive isn't too big of a word for YOU.
This is a useless thread, bottomline is he went there to do some good, and gets ripped for it. lol. THAT is what I find to be a joke.

I don't find the line offensive at all, but I know that if I were a kid that had spent any portion of my childhood trapped in a hospital, clinging to my wishes, I wouldn't skip back to my room after some guy sang "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it all and then some you don't want".
Unlike you, I don't underestimate the power of music and lyrics. Daughtry could/should have changed those handful of words to give the bridge a much more positive, uplifting message.

By changing the bridge now the choruses don't make sense. lol. This is my last comment. If you're going to blame someone blame the hospital staff, who most assuredly would've approved the song/lyrics prior to his performance. It's his song, he has every right to sing it the way it was written, word for word. It's about his wife, why should he have to change the message of his song? They should've either got another artist or they should've asked him to sing a different song, end of story.

You just don't get it. The choruses and the bridge, especially, are the most memorable parts of "Home". The verses are forgettable.
But, even still, the lines that you mentioned are neutral - with the exception of the "and I don't know why" line.
Change that to "I hope you know why", and you have what amounts to 3 line changes that will leave a much happier message ringing in the heads of those sick kids who will promptly go back to their 4th floor prison.

The onus is on the artist not the coordinators, and Chris should've felt obligated to ensure his lyrics weren't a downer in any way before singing to that group.
I'm not saying every word of every song has to be changed, but as a performer you have to be mindful of your audience. Study child psychology and you'll understand just how important positivity is to a sick kid. Quite honestly, most wouldn't have even noticed the change, but the ones that did notice will feel that much more special.

No one's ripping Daughtry for doing some good. I've already said that I love the song and the cause. But I've played for charity causes as well, and I personally felt obligated (as I feel every artist should) to play songs that jived with the cause.
I'm 100% against censorship for the general public, but for specific groups you have to be a little more sensitive and in tune to their situations. Call it politicking if you want, but it's plain common sense to me. Stop being so hard-headed.

One thing we can probably both agree on is that good mental health is key to good physical health. Studies have shown that happy people are healthier, period.
My whole point is that some minor alterations in lyrics could have potentially helped some sick child get over a hill - and is that not worth it?

...but keep in mind this song was not recorded or at least uploaded in it's entirety. It seems as though the one line considered controversial based on the venue, was conveniently played right off the bat. He could've left out the bridge completely and just kept it to a personal relationship song. As for the kids Im sure some of them got quite a lift from seeing a "rock star" in person and possibly they could've cared less about a word he was saying. Music is music, to each his own
