Litany or not and I ... ( 20 hours ago by ssaltspring)
Litany or not and I am not trying to cause an argument here. I am just saying. Ali was great. Great for the game. I have had more entertainment from Ali than any other sports figure ever. Like Kenny Norton said.."it all comes back to Ali." Another Gold medal winner..left it all in the ring..what more do ya want from a guy. Great or not great. No matter what he said or did. Love him or hate him, it all comes back to Ali.
foreman was big and ... ( 19 hours ago by nojokenygren)
foreman was big and strong if you dident come ready he would knock your head off, but foreman had low stamina. he would would give you everything he had the frist 3 rounds then he started to slow down, and then get very frustrated. some one like jack dempsey or evander holyfeild or sonny liston would out last him in my opinion. foreman on the other hand is CRAZY strong i only have liston a head of foreman in power.
Although I feel ... ( 10 hours ago by BigTimePride)
Although I feel nobody would ever beat a prime Ali-Cassius Clay, I will say that Marciano could really hit for his size. I believe Maricano vs Fraizer would have been a great fight with lots of action and heart. I would give Marciano a slight edge against Fraizer. Marciano vs Foreman wouldn't last 4 rounds. Foreman would knock his head off.

he was relaxed and often stood in his corner in between rounds in his 2nd career. You may be right about Sonny but I don't remember. Long reach converted south paw but the 2nd George was Likely too smart to getted tagged by Sonny but no one has ever answered the question and it's an important one. What defines an "era"?
Dempsey I doubt ... ( 6 hours ago by hendrix1)
Dempsey I doubt very seriously if you know more boxing history than me. I know Willard was one of the first Super Heavies. You're not telling me anything I didn't or don't know first of all. Second those 25 rounds were mostly holding and clinching. It was an event if a fighter threw a punch in that era. And to say Forman had a stamina problem is incorrect. He was only stopped in one fight. ALi fight.Thats a stamina problem? Foreman's one two and upper cut dispatched most of his opponents.
Sure WIlliard and ... ( 6 hours ago by hendrix1)
Sure WIlliard and Carnera were super heavies. But none of them possessed the power of big George. This is why I say Big George was the full package. The first super heavy with a huge punch. He didn't have to have the best stamina though i feel he had good stamina. If he didn't he would been stopped more than "once".

In fact Willard was stopped by Flirpo in 8, a much smaller man, Dempsey in 3,and Cox in 5. SO a case could be made that it w as Willard who had the stamina problem. Even if he beat old ma n Johnson in 25? He was stopped more time early than Foreman?
Besides with Big ... ( 6 hours ago by hendrix1)
Besides with Big Georges' power he didn't need to go 25 rounds. How many fighters can take his 1 and 2 and uppercut? Dempsey sure couldn't and Rock couldn't either.Big George stamina problem? Don't think so. Look what big George did at 45? What other fighter at heavy did it? Dempsey? I think not.
And you hit on ... ( 5 hours ago by hendrix1)
And you hit on something also Salt. If Foreman had such a stamina problem as y ou say Dempsey. How in the hell did he stand up between rounds? Don't you think he would sit if he had such a stamina problem?
Foreman had a lot ... ( 5 hours ago by hendrix1)
Foreman had a lot more fights than Willard also. Will only hda 30 fights total losing 6 and 3 by ko. While Big George had 81 and only was stopped once. By the great Muhammad ALi. That's a stamina problem?

FOreman had far more stamina than some people give him credit for. Stopped only once in over 80 fights?
ssaltspring: with ... ( 2 hours ago by tompeppers2)
ssaltspring: with regard to the foreman fight, i can see why you think foreman had no stamina. ok, he didnt as good stamina as other fighters like ken norton or joe frazer but he usually didnt need to. & dont forget, Ali & Foreman fought in Zaire which was over 90degrees of heat. Ali playd the Rope a dope tactic on him&Foreman punched himself out. id be surprised if many fighters would have done better than foreman in that heat, it would be like fighting in a sauna!
Hi hendrix1, ... ( 2 hours ago by dorsi68)
Hi hendrix1, although I agree that Foreman had better stanima than given credit, he did have displine problems during his first career. Ali never beat Foreman, Foreman beat himself as he was sick and tired after the rope-a-dope. If you see his fight with Lyle, Foreman was breathing heavily before he knocked Lyle out. Had that been Louis or Marciano, Foreman would ahve been KO'd.
ssaltspring.. with ... ( 2 hours ago by tompeppers2)
ssaltspring.. with reply to ur other comment. yes i have the utmost respect for both joe and ali. they wer perfectly matched for eachother. also, ali knew how do entertain and sell tickets, thats why there was so much banter. but what many people dont realise is that they were actually really good friends & ali used to take Frazers kids out etc. other fighter i dont think gets enough credit was Ali's sparring partner Larry Holmes. possibly the best left jab in heavy boxing ever!
If Foreman was ... ( 2 hours ago by dorsi68)
If Foreman was better displined, he would have been much higher on the overall heavyeight rankings. He had a great chin and heart. I kow Foreman avoided Shavers and Quarry as he publicly admitted he did not wnat to face great punchers. I am 99% certain Foreman would knock out both early, but a fighter like Louis or Marciano who did not fight to his fight plan would be interesting after the 7th round.
no offence for ... ( 2 hours ago by tompeppers2)
no offence for Marciano fans, but is it only me that thinks this guy is over rated? ok, the guy was a great offensive fighter, he wouldnt let u fight back but i wouldn't even rank him in my top 10!he would have beaten frazer but not even tyson. Marciano did over 100 rounds of sparring with Ali for their computer fight! they asked marciano did he think he would have beaten Ali... The rock replied... 'im sure glad he wernt around in my day'. 'the mans speed & accuracy is nothing hes ever seen b4'
Personally, I would ... ( 2 hours ago by dorsi68)
Personally, I would not rank Marciano in the top 10 myslef, but Dunphry, Arcel, Futch, Duva, Ali, Frazier, Foreman and many other boxing people do. Its very unlikely Tyson beats Marciano as Tyson would not have intimated Marcano and Tyson does not do well when someone hits him back with no fear. About Marciano's comments, most boxers are humble.
hi tompeppers2... ... ( 2 hours ago by ssaltspring)
hi tompeppers2...Larry Holmes had a great straight jab! BEEEauutiful! Ali had a jab that came from all kinds of different angles and it really was his bread and butter when it came to keeping guys from attacking. The string of busted up guys reflect that. Could of a Ali or Holmes kept a Marciano off of him with the jab and to set up their own offensive? I think a very good boxer(in their prime) could, but with punchers there's always that chance. That's the art of boxing that I love.

doris68..George ... ( 1 hour ago by ssaltspring)
doris68..George when he was young thought he was unbeatable & had Ali not got to his mind he may of being right. He had walked through the HW division unbeaten.I remember the build up to that fight and although I loved Ali I thought Ali was going to get stopped. That's the aura Big George had going into the fight. At the time, and as Ali kept telling everyone, that he would dance and tire him but George was just too strong. So Ali adapted, and finally & well past his prime, got his title back.

Tyson ,in his short lived prime, cannot be underrated.
tompeppers2, ... ( 1 hour ago by nojokenygren)
tompeppers2, marciano was the most dedicated fighter ever the best condition. he whent 49-0 never down for more than 4 seconds. had the greatis one punch knockout of all boxing history. he barely reached 5'11 and had to overcome short arms and low weight. beat archie moore who was 1 of the best boxer's of all time. ezzard charels who was the best lightheavy weight of all time. overated?i dont think so, but it is your opinion.

hendrix, the reason why dempsey, marciano, louis dident make a comeback at 45 years old is cause they dident want to.

Take most of the greats and they all go unbeaten against Rocks opponents.Ali,Foreman,Liston,Holmes,Frazier,Klit brothers,Louis,Tyson. But does Rock go unbeaten against ALi's opponents>?Or Fraziers?>how about Holmes' opponents? Does Rock go unbeaten against them?
