Piss on you. It was a brilliant film. And P.S. it was that guy's son that was sending the tapes. He's seen talking with the other guy's son in the very last shot. Both boys may even be responsible. Or one is toying with the other.

Why buy a car that has an engine. Why try to determine a rocket ship's trajectory using calculus, who needs it! lol. faraz1729 must be a woman due to the use of logic. If a movie has no plot then there is no movie.
What a horrendous ... ( 6 months ago by faraz1729)
What a horrendous analogy. Cars and rocket ships are practical objects that are bound by physical laws as to whether they'll function or not. Art is not. Art is a human endeavor that has the ability to come the closest to absolute freedom. So your argument is flawed from the start. Who is this art-fascist dictator who told you a movie must have a plot, anyway?
Oh, and I'm a man so you're wrong about that too. Thanks for playing though.
If you're a man ... ( 6 months ago by superdleg)
If you're a man that is sad. So you're telling me a rocket ship or a car is not a form of art? So I guess their designed themselves. Neither is boundless and both have their limitations meaning whatever the mind can come up with. What we thought was science fiction in the past has become science fact today. At least a car or a rocket ship is useful forms of art.

It's these exceptions to the rules that have paved the way for people like Andres Serrano and his Piss Christ calling it art. Fascist, ha! Freedom is doing what is right not whatever the hell you want. Get a clue.

Give one reason why the Piss Christ is not art. Good luck, art-fascist.

Cars and rockets are not art, you idiot. Go look up the definition of art and try again.
And who said they're designed themselves? Your reading comprehension sucks.

I am studying this now in one of my classes. I don't think that Haneke created this and intended that the audience know who sent the tapes at the end. But it's an art film so it's open to interpretation. However you interpret this it's obvious that it's a brilliant film. The end shot is symbolic so it's not definite that it was Pierrot. When viewing the commentary Haneke had said it was about guilt.

As a student of communications and media studies I didn't see any art in this film at all. The only creative aspect in this movie was the begining when suddenly the tape rewinds and we didn't know they were watching a tape. Im really getting sick and tired of these people making effortless crap and and people calling it art. How bout I just go video tape a rock for 2 hours and watch "artistic" people call it beautiful because they can think up 1000 diffrent metaphores for a rock. Its bullshit.

I agree. Michael Haneke's films in general really tend to toy with what we think of what a horror film or a thriller should be. There's so many times when you think something might happen but it doesn't. It's also like with the tapes. The film isn't about who sent the tapes or why it's how the people react.
The movie really ... ( 1 month ago by lelandb123)

@Jawoosh
Maybe to appreciate the movie more, you should become more familiar with France's (or Europe's) past with colonialism and immigration and the impact on present-day society; the theme 'guilt' (which is indissoluble connected to colonialism and immigration/segegration) is presented metaphorically here in the thriller-setting of one man's family history. A wealthy, white guy who really don't want to think about his own past. The same holds true for European societies.
European society ... ( 1 month ago by Jawooosh)
European society and its presents on guilt is a reason why I should appreciate this movie more because they present "guilt" in a metaphorical way as paying tribute to France's Colonial and Immigration History?

@ Jawoosh.
You are very naive to believe this. Please watch the film again. Haneke, the director, is one of the modern greats. The film offers everything and confirms nothing. It leaves the audience thinking about what they have just seen, leaving the audience to make their own decisions. Please don't write back an angry comment, I just want you to give the film another chance as this is one of the greatest films of the decade. Thank you

Erm......ok. If I ever give up my job as a TV producer. Maybe I'll do that. Three points: 1. You refer to Haneke as "art" - He's as easy to watch as they come. 2. It's spelt "boring", not "boaring". 3. I'll have a big fucking mac and fries please.

Great movie. It's like he's taking the movie language to a different level. Building the tension, leaving long shots to long but not to long, playing with viewer perception. Looking 71 fragments you can see totally different film, but it's like he is really getting what's the point of the specific time or place.
