Bannana, yes you should stop bunking. If you dont the best you'll be is an average ground pounder, you need grades to become anything better.

at moment im joining infantry, and its no grades
but not sure about calvary
but its
1.5miles in 12:45 to get to basic
50 sit ups 2mins
carry 40kgs for 150meters without dropping or stopping
and more than 1 chin up / heave
and it gets harder when you finish your basic trainig

cavalry is the same as infantry as far as grades go (im joining the light dragoons in november) except you dont need to do your 1.5 miler as quick as the infantry lads do. (you wont have to do as much running around the battlefield =P) you only have to do that in 14:15 i think.
the only non physical thing you need to do is your barb test and you have to be a complete moron to fail that.
