| The members of the "President's Own" band do not have to go through boot camp. Therefore, the rank insignia's that they where do not have the cross-rifles on them. They have harps. Regular Marine band members go through training just like the rest. |

| Every Marine has to go to boot camp followed by Marine Combat Training or School of Infantry. It's anywhere from six months to a year and a half of boot camp/school before you ever make it to the fleet Marine Force depending on your MOS. Even the band has to be able to shoot, make 10 mile humps, make swim qual, rappel and everything else all Marines have to do. "Every Marine is a Rifleman" |
