yeah ive read somewhere that he showed up totaly drunk to compensate the lack of heroin and he barel couldnt sit straight. I still believe that without the heroin Bird would even be better,, maybe would have done more composing and arranging.

Is it a version in Parker's album "Swedish Schnapps"? I don't like the arrangement of the ending of that version, if so. Otaku2 (^.^;)

Man, you expressed ...( 3 months ago by phoneke)
Man, you expressed it so well. Its a beatiful sadness, so true and sad. I heard somewhere that he was, in fact, smacked out of his mind when he did this cut. Which makes this song, to me, even more tragic.
Phoneke, close but ...( 3 months ago by michelleinchase)
Phoneke, close but not quite. He was seriously dope sick. When he left the studio, he was arrested, beaten by the police and institutionalized in a mental hospital. He fought to prevent the release of this performance, as musically, it is so flawed. But, it is the most gut wrenchingly beautiful performance, so filled with pathos

That's true. He ...( 2 months ago by nixonja07)
That's true. He was so strung out he could barely stand when he did this song, and was essentially dying of heroin addiction- which did ultimately kill him. Not long after this was recorded, he pawned his horn for heroin. A very tragic life that makes his music all the more haunting and sad.

I am always amazed at the subtlety of jazz as played someone like Charlie Parker. There is so much taking place musically, yet the listening experience is relaxing, laid-back.
