Sands of Sorrow (1950); On the plight of Arab refugees from the Arab-Israeli war. Dorothy Thompson speaks on the refugee problem. Refugees live in tents in the Gaza Strip, are given blankets and food by Egyptian soldiers, and receive flour from UNICEF. A Lebanese priest conducts services. Refugees work as plumbers, carpenters, tailors, and shoemakers in the city of Jerusalem. Doctors vaccinate refugees against disease. Shows the squalid living conditions in refugee camps, starving children, and emphasizes the hopeless condition of the refugees. Martin Luther King preached non-violent resistance. No one in the middle east follows that. George Washington was fighting to secure independence. Israel has already done that.

powelltg - No one forced Ethiopians or Yemenites to come to Israel, but Israel went to great lengths to get them there. They have MUCH better lives in Israel. Of course there are cultural conflicts, just as there are in ANY culturally diverse nation. They are free to leave if the wish, but they stay in Israel. That says all that needs to be said

I would have liked to have seen you attempt to explain to the Jews fleeing the refugee camps of Europe, after being liberated from the death camps, that their need for somewhere they could be safe from racists was itself racist. They were nearly obliterated by racists and driven from Europe. They would have gladly continued their lives in Europe, but a little thing called the Holocaust drove them out

Of course you are correct in your assertion that aliya rose after WWII compared to pre-1933 rates. Clearly, many victims of the Holocaust would have sadly remained in Poland, Russia, Germany, Austria, Hungary, etc. had the Holocaust not occurred. I request clarification as to how not wishing to be exterminated is racist. There was no other place that would take them (I know, a small percentage escaped to Central America, South America, North America, etc., but nearly every country had quotas.)

Israel was the proper place from a theological point of view as well as a pragmatic point of view. For the most part, The Holy Land was empty and desolate. I would be foolhardy if I said that zero Arabs were displaced, but the number of Arabs displaced is negligable compared to the population transfers in India/Pakistan and the Czech/German relocation and nearly every other historical precedent.

It really isn;t worth your time to speak with other humans if it can be determined that they are pathological liars. Even in the face of the evidence of their own lies they will continue to lie. It is how they have been conditioned as children. It is literally a programmed behavior response which they would need to have unprogrammed (but of course would they WANT to be honest? If they are adults it should be their choice. The best recourse is to just remember and not waste energy on them.)
