The Japanese weren't about to surrender seeing as they were going to start conscripting men 15-60, and women 17-45. Also they were going to slaughter the 100,000 Allied POW's they had they were invaded.
Leading up to the invasion conventional bombing would have increased which would have killed many. The Japanese would have continued slaughtering Asians in areas they owned. Millions of Japanese deaths were expected in the invasion.
9/11 was an inside job though, WTC 7 gave that one away.
The blitz was aimed at civilian buildings in Berlin where people lived - that wasn't good.
I don't agree with dropping bombs on civilians to save lives because the Americans didn't have to invade and could of used diplomacy to get peace. I have strong faith that diplomacy can go a long way with skill.
Dropping bombs like that is the worst case no matter what because it's simply something we wouldn't want to happen to us.
I'd rather be invaded that have a bomb like that dropped on me, think about the chances of survival :s
Chances of survival? Are you kidding me? Lets go through this again. 220,000 died from the nukes. Millions would have died from the invasion. Also over 250,000 Allied casualties were expected.
On a side note, more japs died from the fire-bombing campaign over Tokyo than both of the nukes put together.
Okay what would happen if we chose neither the bombing nor the invasion with Japan.
Instead, we'd try to use diplomacy with the Japanese - maybe they would listen better than the Germans?
For this to work, greed must be left in the bin outside...
Even the 9/11 job couldn't be linked to Iraq but in still caused enough panic and fear to allow this war to go on without too much protest.
People knew what "terrorism" was that day and would become a lot more willing to accept choices made.
