Exactly, like mentioned by m3gas1 even most Afghan scholars conclude the name of Kandahar stems from Alexander who had named it Alexandria in Greek (while Iskandar means Alexander in Dari)

the thing is about alexnader is that he suffered deafeat at the hands of afghans. He even wrote a letter to his mother he said "mother although u bore only one son named alexander every one here (Kandahar area) can be called an alexander, my legs are like wells i cannot move because the children are trying to kill us" quote on quote. so think agian when saying alexander is a military genius
