Swedish Helicopter Crash
Uploaded by: slvgdvg
Video Description:
6/21/05 - STOCKHOLM, Sweden
I got this footage from last week. In the paper they say the "video showed the rotor blades of the Lithuanian-registered MI-2 helicopter hitting a tree, then clipping the top off a lamp post."
I never noticed the lamp being cut down, but you can clearly see it if you focus on it. This was the guy's birthday present, a helicopter ride! Instead he got a helicopter ride to the hospital.

The pilot did not want to set down again because onlookers were dangerously close and he was not able to maintain stable hover. Instead he opted to gain speed since that would add lift. He had scouted the path beforehand and made the call that there would be clearance. (cont'd)
Google for "Report RL 2007:15e" (include the quotes) and the first hit will be the accident report in english. Read it before you post stupid comments of the kind "ZOMFG!!11 IDIOT PILOT lulz!!"
Just scroll down and *read*. Get the accident report and widen up on why he did it like that.
Give it up.

As you can see he's drifting... not really able to maintain stable hover. If he sets down at that point, he's risking tipping the helicopter and getting into a dynamic rollover, from which he will not be able to recover because he doesn't have the power needed to quickly get up again.
This means that the rotor will be starting to slice up ground and, in the worse case, onlookers.
Hindsight is 20/20.
Go right ahead... I dare you.
