Devdas - Maar Daala

Video Description:
I am putting this up as a sample of the movie Devdas because it is a fantastic movie and I hope this will inspire people to get the movie.
In this scene the man and women are making a bet whether or not Devdas will show up. The women is a prostitute (think along the lines of a Geisha, no sex just dancing and singing) If Devdas doesn't show up Chandramukhi (women) will become the mans personal dancer. If he does show then she will have disgraced him and will make him dance wearing the bells she is holding. Sorry there are no subtitles, the subtitled version I had was low quality and bad subbing. Hope you enjoy this. ^_^

Devdasi (Temple dancers /Geisha like) culture existed long before Islam came into India.
Ancient and medieval history
Originally, devadasis were celibate all their life.[11] Reference to dancing girls in temples is found in Kalidasa's "Meghadhoot". It is said that dancing girls were present at the time of worship in the Mahakal Temple of Ujjain. Some scholars are of the opinion that probably the custom of dedicating girls to temples became quite common in the 6th century CE, as most of the Puranas containing reference to it have been written during this period.
This dance never bores me. Madhuri truly delivered a spectacular dance number here. Maar Dala and Kahe chhed mohe are by far the best 2 dances from the movie. Dola re dola is nice and all, but these two dances were just beyond amazing.
The Mughal Muslim culture of keeping courtesans for entertainment and sex, however, is the direct predecessor to what is displayed in Devdas. I'm not making a judgment, so there's no need for the anger.
