With Taliban territory continuing to fall to the Northern Alliance, we look back to when the Uzbek warlord, General Dostum, first joined up with Massoud to form an alliance against the Taliban. At the height of his power, Dostum controlled six provinces in the north of Afghanistan, and commanded an extraordinary following amongst his people, who named him Pasha -- "the King". A rare glimpse of one of the most resilient of the opposition commanders.

Yes that was true and sad. But partly was caused as one of his main commanders in control of Faryab turned against him in favour of Taliban and during those bad days Dostum did not receive a helping hand from Massoud as a payback. However at the end with aerial support from USA he was the first to cause collapse of Taliban rule starting from the North once again. And believe me if provided with resources and support he is the man who can finish Taliban off from South too.

Masoud was NOT in a position to help Dostum or anyone else at the initial stageds and at that time because he was chased to the entrance of Panjshir valley and was recovering himself. Later on, however he welcomed Dostum from Turkey to come to Panjshir and equipped him and supported him to fight against terrorists in the North, Which Dostum still appreciates that fact ! U r rite in general however on that particular occasion a dispute happened between two leaders which became well-known in the north. Dostum got upset as he did not get what he wanted from Amer Sahib reportedly he said to him in the radio that " if that is the case I am letting them (Taliban) in to come and sort you out as well" However soon Dostum had to forget that and accept Amer sahib's cammond and help to restart the resistance.
