A beatiful song and video, which I think it is about 3 generations, and how attitudes live on. I met the Dixie Chicks years ago, pre Natilie. I also met my soon to be ex-wife at one of their eary Bluegrass/Texas swing shows. We have two beautiful daughters now, who may one day be the next sisters in a famous band, as I am teaching them the banjo and mandolin. "Way leads on to way,.... and that has made all the difference" as Robert Frost once said.

This is a story about how bad cooking can ruin a marriage.
Crippled that older guy! Nat is turning into the old guy, because she secretly wants to be a man with a penis and balls she can scratch. The sisters are shown being irritable because Nat ruined their careers, but get over it because they know a new singer will reignite their stellar careers. Eventually, Nat kills the old guy and finds happiness luring small children into her bedroom.

The song/video follows 3 generations of the same person. From the little boy to the grown man to the old man (being cared for by his daughter). It follows the pattern of abuse, from being emotionally neglected as a child to emotionally neglecting his own. The song itself is an apology to his wife and daughter. We also see that the 'pattern' is ending - with the mom and little girl (who is the younger 'Natalie') and subsequently with the way that the older 'Natalie' is with her daughter.
